Catoctin Mountain National Scenic Byway Maryland is part of a 4-state heritage corridor known as the Journey Through Hallowed Land, stretching from Gettysburg, PA to Monticello in Virginia. Traveling 38 miles in Frederick County from south to north, Byway begins at the Potomac River and the Virginia line, adjacent Point Rocks, and winds along the beautiful Catoctin Mountain Chain to the Mason-Dixon Line (border of Pennsylvania). Along the route, Catoctin Mountain Park is decorated with local attractions and nationally recognized, natural areas and parks, historic sites and cultural importance, and the vibrant Main Street economy. National Park Service operates Catoctin Mountain Park. Cyclists can enter the park near Thurmont, Maryland. Hiking trails of the park is off limits to bikers. You have to ride through the park on paved and gravel roads used by vehicles. The National Park Service warns that this road has no shoulder and you use it at your own risk. The park is open year round until dusk. Cyclists do not pay a fee to ride in the park.
