Konigstein Fortress Tourism in Germany
Konigstein Fortress is a very old castle with its tunnels which are very beautiful and enjoy an exceptional panorama. Konigstein Fortress used for various other purposes for centuries, centuries of being everything from a retreat for the army to the hiding place of the Saxon royal family. During World War I and World War II it was used as a prisoner of war. The Fort was surrounded by a wall with an area of 24 acres with room for the Parade and about 30 old buildings there are here. Most notably is the oldest in the Barracks of Germany in 1589 and was still working as high as 500 feet through rock during the same period. Through the history of this Fortress, Konigstein placed some famous people. The Saxon Royal Court fled here during the war and domestic upheaval including the war seven years ago and the revolution of 1848. Before finding the secret of porcelain production, Johann Bottger imprisoned here for failing to produce gold.
During World War II, many of the impressive art collection of the Museum in Dresden is hidden here. At that time, it stands Konigstein served as senior officer of the French general Henri Giraud made famous for escaping from the fortress. In Konigstein Fortress, there is a long tunnel, and visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Valley of the Elbe as well as Saxon Switzerland Landscape. The food is mostly a local Saxon cuisine, which is quite warm and the food is very delicious.
