Saint Michel d’Aiguilhe in France
Saint Michel d’Aiguilhe is a chapel located in the top of the mountain which is fabulous with incredible natural scenery. The chapel was built in 962 with the volcanic formation high around 89 meter and can be reached by stairs of about 268. It attracts many pilgrims, particularly since Le Puy is the starting point for one of the main routes to Santiago de Compostela. In the 12th century, the chapel was significantly expanded by adding a short nave West sanctuary, elliptical, two-sided Chapel of this monastery with a gallery at the top, and a carved portal and a Bell Tower. In the 10th century frescoes were painted in the original style. Above the Saint Michel d’Aiguilhe is a Bell Tower and fell in 1275 and was built in the 19th century. And finally the removal of plaster in the chapel at around 1850 and 12th century wall paintings. A century later, in 1955, the archaeologists found a treasure trove of sacred objects on the altar, which is now displayed behind bars on a wall for decoration and to attract visitors who come here.
